Hobby Boss 82926 1/72 Scale Soviet SS-23 "Spider" Missile Vehicle Kit

The SS-23 "Spider" tactical ballistic missile ("Oka" missile) was created by the Soviet Union after the Cold War to replace the outdated "Scud" ballistic missile. The development began in 1977, the first flight test was carried out in 1978, it was officially produced in 1979, and it began to be equipped with Soviet troops in 1980. After NATO's discovery, the missile was given the code name SS-23, nicknamed "Spider". The deployment of the SS-23 missile gave the Warsaw Pact a certain advantage over NATO in continental Europe. By the mid-1980s, the Soviet Army could use the SS-23 tactical ballistic missile to hit NATO airfields around the clock. The SS-23 had a range of 500 kilometers and a speed of Mach 9. NATO had no defense against these weapons. However, restricted by the "Intermediate Nuclear Forces Treaty", the SS-23 was finally destroyed in the late 1980s.
