Buying from Crazy Model Trains

Crazy Model Trains is an online only retailer and sells on our website, eBay, and Amazon. 

What to know about the different sites.

eBay and Amazon both charge a fee of ~15% which means we must add that cost into the price of the product. This means you will have to pay more for the same product that you could buy on our website.

If you purchase from us on eBay or Amazon, then find out that the same item was less expensive on our website we cannot credit you the difference.

If you need to return an item, you must use the return process site that you purchased from.

Using the Site

We aim to make your experience as easy as possible. Navigation is organized by CategoriesScale/Gauge, Item Type, and Brand. You can use filters on the left side of the site to narrow your search.

  • Search Tip: If you know the part number, use it—our search engine is optimized for that.

  • If an item is not listed, it is out of stock. We only display in-stock items.

  • Inventory is shared across our website, eBay, and Amazon. Our inventory software updates all platforms, but delays of 5–30 minutes may cause oversells. If this happens, we will issue a refund. We do not backorder items or accept pre-orders.

  • Product images come from the manufacturer. These may include concept photos, vary in color, or show different details depending on the production phase.

  • Manufacturers often use the same photo for different road numbers. Always rely on the title to determine the actual product and road number.


Ordering

  • Review your cart carefully before checkout, especially the Scale/Gauge. Over 50% of preventable returns are due to buying the wrong scale.

  • Shipping costs are shown during checkout.

  • We verify addresses, phone numbers, and emails to protect against fraud. Please use accurate information tied to your name.

  • We may call or email for high-value orders or to confirm identity. In some cases, a valid photo ID with name and address is required.

  • We use PayPal to process credit card transactions (accepts Visa, Mastercard, Discover, AmEx, Venmo, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, and PayPal Later).

  • Your billing address must match your credit card records. A mismatch will cause a decline. After three failed attempts, your account will be locked for 24 hours.

  • If a payment is declined, check with your bank before trying again.

  • We do not accept checks or money orders.

  • We do not ship to:

    • Hotels, motels, or bed & breakfasts

    • Freight forwarders

    • Parcel lockers or non-residential forwarding services

  • If you use a restricted shipping address, your order may be canceled. If the order does ship, our responsibility ends once the item is marked “delivered” by the carrier at the provided address.

  • We reserve the right to cancel any order at any time for any reason.

  • We currently ship to the United States and Canada only.

  • Our website is secured with a GeoTrust Secure Certificate to protect your data.


Handling Time

  • Orders typically ship within one business day.

  • Orders placed early may ship the same day.

  • Our warehouse is closed weekends. Orders placed Friday–Sunday ship on Monday (or Tuesday if Monday is a holiday).


Packaging

  • Most items are shipped in boxes with protective materials.

  • Smaller, lightweight items may ship in padded poly bags to reduce cost.


Shipping Services

We use the lowest-cost method available:

  • USPS: Ground Advantage, Priority Mail (USPS no longer supports First Class Mail or Parcel Select)

  • FedEx: Home Delivery, Ground

  • Items under 5 lbs. typically ship via USPS Ground Advantage

  • If Priority Mail is about the same price or cheaper, we’ll use it instead

  • Items over 5 lbs. usually ship via FedEx

  • High-value orders (Over $600.00) may require Signature Confirmation. If this is an issue, please let us know.

  • Orders for Canada will ship USPS or FedEx 


Tracking Information

  • A valid email address is required to receive tracking info.

  • You’ll get a tracking number as soon as your order ships.

  • You can track your item directly via the carrier’s website.

  • Sometimes USPS scans items as “Delivered” before actual delivery. If this happens:

    1. Wait one full business day

    2. Then contact your local post office with the tracking number

  • Carriers use GPS-enabled devices to track deliveries. Your local post office can often determine where the package was left.

  • If you still haven't received your order, please contact us.


Cancellations, Returns & Refunds

Order Cancellations

  • Once placed, orders incur a 3% transaction fee (charged by PayPal). This is non-refundable.

  • If you cancel before shipping, you’ll be refunded 97% of the total.

  • If you enter a restricted or incorrect address, your order will be canceled and subject to a 3% fee.

  • If you cancel after shipping, or refuse the package, you will be charged:

    • 15% restocking fee

    • Shipping cost (non-refundable)

To avoid paying return shipping, refuse the package if possible.


Return Policy – Crazy Model Trains

Crazy Model Trains has a 30-Day return policy, See below for Conditions

Ordered the wrong item, ordered by mistake, changed mind, or just didn't like it.

  • Do NOT open the item if you plan to return it.

  • We do not support “try and buy” purchases.

  • Contact Bill at 240-367-6067 or info@crazymodeltrains.com for an RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization).

  • After approval, return the item within 14 days. Items not received in that timeframe are ineligible for return.

  • Unopened items may be returned with:

    • No signs of use or damage

    • Original box and packaging

    • A valid order number and explanation

  • Restocking fees:

    • 15% for unopened items

    • Opened items may incur up to a 50% restocking fee depending on the condition of the item.

  • Do not tape or write on product packaging.

  • Returns without RMA will be rejected.

  • We reserve the right to refuse any return that doesn’t meet these conditions.

  • All returns must be shipped at the buyer's cost.

Wrong Item Received

  • Contact us immediately and do not open the item.

  • We’ll send a return label.

  • Once we receive the item, we’ll ship the correct one (if in stock) or issue a full refund.


Damaged Items

  • Contact us right away.

  • Take clear photos of:

    • The damaged item

    • The outer packaging

    • The shipping label

  • Email or text the photos to (240-367-6067) so we can submit a claim and resolve the issue quickly.


Defective Items

  • If your item is defective right out of the box, contact us for an RMA and a return label.

  • If the item becomes defective after use, please contact the manufacturer for warranty service.


Non-Returnable Items

  • We are not responsible for minor manufacturer defects like, these issues must be addressed with the manufacturer.

    • Paint color variations

    • Glue marks

    • Smudges or cosmetic imperfections

  • Electronics and circuit boards (e.g., DCC Controllers, DCC decoders, Power boosters, control units) must be returned to the manufacturer. Improper use or handling may void warranties.

  • Electronics can be easily damaged by:

    • Static electricity

    • Short circuits

    • Incorrect wiring

    • Overloads or misuse

What to Include in all Returns

  • Your order number

  • A brief description of the issue

  • All paperwork that came with the item
