The Bowser model is as built for the PRR. HO scale, can motor, LED lighting, blackened nickel plated wheels, and many detail parts. Chassis the same as used in our recent release of Phase 3 locos.

The Alco RS-3 "Hammerhead" was a rare variation of the standard Alco RS-3 road switcher, produced by the American Locomotive Company (Alco) in the 1950s. The nickname "Hammerhead" refers to its distinctive tall, boxy long hood, which housed extra equipment that made it look taller than a typical RS-3.

• Base Model: Alco RS-3, a 1,600-horsepower road switcher built from 1950 to 1956

• Engine: Alco 244 V12 diesel engine

• Horsepower: 1,600 HP

• Wheel Arrangement: B-B (four axles, two per truck)

• Major Identifying Feature:

  • Extra-tall long hood, sometimes housing a steam generator (for passenger service) or dynamic braking equipment

  • This design made visibility difficult for crews, hence the "hammerhead" look

This design was not widely adopted because the tall hood obstructed visibility for switching crews. However, it remains a fascinating and rare variant of the Alco RS-3, making it a favorite among railfans and model railroaders.
