6947 Light Pacific 4-6-2, NYC 4392, Sans Serif Lettering, Paragon4 Sound/DC/DCC, N In 2022, BLI is bringing out our second production of USRA Light and Heavy 4-6-2 steam locomotives, commonly called Light Pacifics and Heavy Pacifics! There were 20 original Heavy Pacifics built in 1919 for the USRA program, and all 20 went to Erie Railroad. From 1923, numerous copies were built, and many railroads operated similar locomotives. There were 81 original Light Pacifics built in 1919, and these were delivered to ACL, B&O, GTW, M&O (GM&O), and L&N. Subsequently, each of these railroads built copies, and several other railroads operated locomotives with similar dimensions and equipment. The Light Pacifics were limited to 54,000 lbs load per axle, versus 60,000 for the Heavy Pacifics, and this allowed the Light Pacifics to run on most main lines. Our Heavy and Light models follow the original USRA designs closely. Railroad specific variations are not modeled on these locomotives. Many Pacifics used the same 10,000 gallon tender as the USRA Mikados, and our models uses this 10,000 gallon tender. In our 2022 production run, we are building mostly Heavy and Light 4-6-2's that were quite similar to the USRA prototypes, but were not part of the USRA program. We have selected well-known locomotives with attractive paint schemes. Additionally, we will offer one unlettered Heavy Pacific and one unlettered Light Pacific. Both are painted black, with graphite firebox and smokebox, and are ready to be decorated and run on any railroad you like. DC Operation Notes

Broadway Limited Paragon4 Sound / DC / DCC locomotives are fully compatible with DC layouts. However, because these models contain advanced onboard electronics, the type of DC controller used is very important.

Recommended DC Controllers

• Kato Power Pack 22-018 / 22-018-1 – Clean, modern DC output; excellent for sound locomotives
• MRC Tech 7 Series – Safe for Paragon4 when pulse/momentum features are OFF

Controllers to Use with Caution

• MRC Tech 4 2500 – Momentum and brake features must be OFF
• MRC Railpower 1300 – Older pulsed DC design; may cause sound interruptions

Controllers Not Recommended

• MRC Tech II / older Railpower units (1400, 1500, 2400, etc.)
• Older train-set power packs with pulse or unregulated DC output

Sound Features in DC Mode

When operated on DC power, Paragon4 locomotives provide automatic sound functions (startup, engine sounds, brake squeal). For manual control of horn/whistle, bell, coupler, and sound mute, a BLI DC Master Analog Control Module is recommended.

Important Operating Tips

• Do not use pulse, momentum, or brake features on DC throttles
• Advance throttle slowly during startup
• Keep track and wheels clean for reliable sound and operation
• Maximum throttle is not required for normal operation

Note: Use of older pulse-style DC controllers may result in erratic operation, sound dropouts, or long-term decoder stress. For best performance and reliability, a modern DC power pack is strongly recommended.
