These boxcars ran regularly from 1955-1975 and could be seen being pulled by 1st and 2nd generation diesel locomotives or late steam. Around since the beginning of the Pacific Railroad Act of 1862, Union Pacific became the first transcontinental railroad in North America connecting through an almost inaccessible terrain to the coast (unless you were one to brave the elements in a covered wagon) made it possible to travel from New York to San Francisco in 10 days. Today, Union Pacific has more than 32,000 miles of rail over 2/3 of the United States, and the oldest railroad in continuous operation at 160 years old.
