Description
Kato's N scale GG1 returns in Amtrak's original Phase I livery as #926, the silver-and-red Raymond Loewy-styled electric that headlined Northeast Corridor service in the early 1970s. Beneath the plastic shell sits a heavy die-cast split-frame chassis with a five-pole motor, dual brass flywheels and all-wheel pickup, giving the model the weight and low-speed control to pull a full fifteen-car Broadway Limited consist up a four percent grade. Directional LED lighting illuminates the headlight, class lights and number boards, and blackened metal pantographs top a shock-absorber suspension that lets this long locomotive negotiate a 249mm (9-3/4") radius S-curve. This is the standard DC version with a DCC-friendly mechanism, ready for a drop-in Digitrax DN163K1D or TCS K1D4-NC decoder whenever you want to convert; a factory DCC-equipped version is sold separately as 137-2026-DCC. The real #926 survives today on display at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse, New York.
