Description
Kato catalog number 176-8560-S is an N scale EMD/Progress Rail SD70ACu decorated for Norfolk Southern number 7300 and supplied with a DCC decoder and sound factory installed. Kato tooled this model new and gives each railroad its correct spotting features, so the Norfolk Southern version carries cab-mounted headlights rather than the nose-mounted arrangement used on the Canadian Pacific units.

The prototype is a rebuild: the SD90MAC never found steady work on North American railroads through the 1990s, so Norfolk Southern had a batch converted, swapping the Siemens electrical gear for Mitsubishi equipment and fitting an SD70ACe-style cab.
