Description
Lionel's O gauge TOFC flat car carries two piggyback trailers in Chicago & North Western's green and yellow Famous For Piggy-Back Freight Service livery. The flat car is lettered CNW 44017 in the road's 1950s scheme and is built on a die-cast frame with a wood deck.
- Die-cast frame with wood deck and die-cast trucks
- Operating couplers using Lionel's hidden tabs
- Lettered CNW 44017 with BLT 2-53 and NFDL 10-54 data
- Separately applied collapsible trailer hitches and working bridge plates
- Two trailers on rubber tires with mud flaps and opening rear doors
- C&NW ball herald on both trailers
- 14-3/4" long assembled; requires O36 curves
Piggyback service was one of the great growth stories of postwar American railroading, and a string of these flats gives an intermodal look to a 1950s or 1960s freight. The assembled length suits a mid-size or larger layout.
