The GG1 is one of the most recognizable locomotives ever built: technically two locomotives under a single Raymond Loewy-styled shell, it produced about 4,600 horsepower and served from the 1930s into the 1980s. Many GG1s outlived the Pennsylvania Railroad and went on to work for Penn Central and then Conrail in both freight and Amtrak passenger service, and 4800 - the original 'Old Rivets' - wore this patriotic scheme.
