The Northeastern caboose began as a 1920 USRA wood-sheathed design and was realised in steel as a 1924 Reading Company car; it became so common on the Reading, Western Maryland, Lehigh Valley and Central of New Jersey that railfans named the type after the region. This car's 10-75 paint date puts it in Erie Lackawanna's last months, before Conrail absorbed the railroad on 1 April 1976.
