The C36-7 was General Electric's higher-horsepower six-axle Dash-7, rated at 3,600 or 3,750 hp against the C30-7's 3,000 hp, and was built between July 1979 and February 1989. Of the 599 units produced only 129 went to domestic buyers - Conrail, Missouri Pacific, Norfolk & Western and Norfolk Southern - with a further 40 to Mexico, 422 to China and eight to Comilog in Gabon.
