The Reading Company was the anthracite road of eastern Pennsylvania, and its freight operations passed to Conrail on 1 April 1976. Between the late 1960s and the early 1970s a number of railroads promoted the U.S. Savings Bonds program by turning box cars into rolling billboards for it, and Bachmann's five-scheme series recreates that run of cars.
